Philadelphia City Paper: Fa la la la la bahdeebahdu, November 2002

Warren Muller used to sell his one-of-a-kind lamp creations on Third Street, directly across from the shop (Flotsam + Jetsam) where RJ Thornburg used to do witty things with home décor. Now, just around the corner on Cherry, the two own bahdeebahdu, where, as partners in business as well as in life, they’ve created a space that reflects Muller’s voracious imagination and Thornburg’s exquisite eye. Muller can turn anything into a lamp and does: a milk crate full of bottles; sea green glass chunks discarded from the kiln at Hot Soup; a fantastic 8 ˝ foot garland of miscellanea he calls his “Charm Bracelet.” The lamps and inventive furnishings (like a couch made of 6,300 nickels by designer Johnny Swing) can be pricey, but the most intriguing holiday gift may be the one that doesn’t yet have a price. Muller decapitated one of those hideous mechanical dancing Santas, replaced the head with a brush, stripped him to basic black and draped him with old machine parts and voila, dancing punk anti-Santa!
