Life In A Venti Cup: Westin's Hip Hotel Makeover, June 2007

Download Article (.pdf)

A few weeks back we turned you on to Westin Philly's cool approach to hotel room design. They turned a room over to blog Uwishunu (pronounced: "you wish you knew") for a stylish makeover. That's right, a blog was tasked with styling a hotel room for hotelier Westin any way they saw fit. Knowing the seriousness of the feat before them, they enlisted the creative juices of 20 talented artists and designers from the Philly area to assist.

The room is complete, and the results are truly inspring. Here's the latest on the Hip Hotel Makeover:

After weeks of hard work, I’m pleased to announce that the uwishunu room at the Westin Philadelphia hotel is fully made over and ready for guests! The room debuted last night to rave reviews, and it was amazing to see the creativity and talent of all those Philly artisans brought together in one place. Nearly every aspect of the room is unique–from the drawer pulls to the shower curtain to the lamps.

And although design by committee can offen end in disastrous results, the Westin room is chic, cohesive and downright luxurious. Nothing about the interior of this room says 'major hotel chain'. In fact, you'd be hardpressed to find a room this richly decorated outside of Florence, Italy. Somehow this group pulled off a room that is more Medici Palace than mainstream hotelier. Raphael would be proud. See the results for yourself.

Once you've recovered from the shock of the hip makeover, take a peek at the uwishunu blog. It's an insider's guide to Philly that serves up hot tips on shopping, dining, entertainment and the arts. If you haven't been to Philly in a while (or ever), this site may just prompt you to make room for the City of Brotherly Love on your summer schedule.
